A Map of the Winter Skies in the Northern Hemisphere.

For centuries, even in the darkest of Paleolithic times, man has been fascinated by the stars. In an effort to understand more of his world and the skies above it, he has tried to map the constellations, grouping them together and giving each a story and a meaning. At the time, the stories were taken as fact.
Here is my version of those celestial charts, annotated with traditional tales from many cultures but also with stories based firmly in contemporary times and that we currently take as fact too. By giving all ‘stories’ equal weight I hope to suggest that the idea of the ‘truth’ is constantly changing and what we regard as fact now, may be regarded as fantasy in the future.
White ink on blue mountboard with stars picked out in silver leaf. 40 x 40 cms.
Giclee prints on heavy weight paper (without silver leaf) available at £65.00 here.
